I’m thrilled to have Beth Carter visiting today, to discuss her love of wine and romance and introduce her sexy new book Otherworldly, McKnight, Perth and Daire.

You don’t have to be a sommelier to appreciate a good wine, but choosing one depends on a  variety of personal choice. Do you like delicate, bold, sweet, tart or spicy? Perhaps either a bit dry or maybe full body and rich. In fact, those same unique taste buds characteristics could be applied to romance books. The genre has so many branches that there is something for everyone. So much like choosing a white wine for poultry or red wine with beef, the palate is broad when drinking wine while reading.

Basing the heat level of romance is one way to pair the perfect wine. The sweeter the romance, the sweeter the wine. Along the banks of the Rhine River in Germany lay quaint little towns and beautiful vineyards. I was lucky enough to visit this area back in 2002 and had a wine tasting with ice wine, which is the  sweetest wine you can probably drink. I can just imagine curled up in a big comfy chair, reading a sweet romance story on my e-reader, sipping ice wine. Or perhaps you prefer balancing out the sweet with the tart.  Then perhaps a Pinot Blanc, or a dry Riesling to cleanse the palate.

I, myself, am a red wine lover as well as a paranormal romance reader. I love the slight edge…the spicy bold flavors of both. The dark, red blends pair very well with a good vampire story as the analogy of drinking blood is inescapable. I would suggest Apothic Dark, or one of my personal favorites, Witching Hour. Both aren’t so sweet that they hurt your teeth, nor are they bitter. Full bodied with hints of spice, cherries and vanilla are a wonderful combination.

Of course, if you prefer reading the intricate stories of ménage, of course there is no better wine than Ménage à Trois Silk, a smooth red blend that seduces you with every sip.  I hope wherever your preference lies, you find the right pairing of wine and romance.

And here’s the story to enjoy with your wine – Otherwordly.

Get to Know Beth Carter

I began reading my mom’s Harlequin Presents in the fifth grade, and from the first story I knew I wanted to write romance novels. I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren’t cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box.  I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.
