With a new book coming this fall, I’ve decided to restart my participation in Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sundays. Below are eight lines from Race to Redemption, Book 1 in my Green Rising Series. Book 2, The Scent of Memory, is coming soon From Evernight Publishing. I will start sharing those snippets as the release date gets closer.
A blond, bearded man, mid-thirties she estimated, looked up at her from a small, solid sand-packed desk. Dark smudges built a home under clear green eyes and worry lines ran rivers across his brow. He carries unhappy secrets.
The pain etched into the rough angles of his face reached deep inside her and mingled with her own. All she wanted to do was run her fingers along those lips clamped down in a scowl that appeared almost permanent. She’d been wound up so tight with her own loss, almost nothing snuck under the brittle guard she slammed up to keep everyone away.
“Proof of ID,” he snarled at her in a voice low and rough and sexy. His almost feral gaze fixed on her.

Race to Redemption Blurb
Intergalactic storm racing champion, Elaina Carteret, left the circuit in disgrace after a horrendous accident. Willing to deal with the devil, aka her business manager, she accepts a challenge for one last chance to fly again. The deal seemed easy – pose as Lainie Carter, medical transport pilot, and spy on a hospital outpost. Until she meets the director, Dr. Erik Johansen, who runs the station with an iron hand, a permanent scowl and the tightest bod on the planet.
Erik keeps his emotions and laboratories locked up tight. He once trusted a woman who turned out to be a spy—and millions died. When the sizzling hot Lainie Carter sashay’s into his office with her endless legs, pouty mouth and penchant for sneaking into forbidden areas, he knows she’s dangerous. If only she would stop sneaking into his fantasies.
When the outpost is attacked by mercenaries, the Diva and Dr. Dictator are thrown together in a race across the desert to save two dying children. As a fragile trust grows between their damaged hearts, will it be strong enough to survive the truths that threaten their growing bond?
Welcome back to the snippet hops! Enjoyed the snippet…
Thanks, Veronica. I had to take a few years off from writing and I’m glad to be back.
Welcome back, Shari! I really like the blurb for this story! And I thoroughly enjoyed your description of what must be the protagonist (based on that scowl) 🙂
I almost didn’t find the comment space. I thought the post ended with the Tags and the Related.
Looking fr ward to reading more of this.
Thanks, Teresa. I’m glad to be back. Personal reasons took me away from writing for awhile. The comment section is poorly placed. I will look into seeing if it can be reorganized.
Sounds like they both have a lot that they are dealing with. Nice snippet!
Thanks, Jessica. They sure due.
My brain got hooked by “sand-packed desk”. Makes me wonder what kind of environment they’re in.
Desert. Sand has particular qualities that allows it to be molded. Thanks for dropping by.
Great description of the guy. He seems like a challenge for her.
Yep. They challenge each other. Thanks for dropping by.
An intriguing introduction.
