In this post, we are going to look at the movie V for Vendetta. In the film, a neo-fascist government has taken over the UK and a pandemic is loose throughout the continental Europe and second civil war ravaged the U.S. Scary huh!

V is a masked rebel who uses terrorist acts to jumpstart a revolution. The story is complex, at times hard to follow, and its hard to tell without spoilers. I use it more because the dystopic elements feel so real today. In truth, V is motivated more by revenge than idealism at times, as he was tortured by those in power and the mask hides those scars as well as his identity. The film came out in 2005, and it seems to be built on real threats and schisms playing out in society today. In fact, the film made many references to threating events of the time such as biometric identification, and an avian flu going around at the time. V comes so close to things today, reminding us that dystopias are most frightening when we can see those threads running through them.

  • The title, ” V for Vendetta” is familiar but I confess that I have not seen it. Friday night movies nights usually are rated PG since my boys are young. Great A to Z post, thanks for sharing.

    • My progeny has moved on to R movies, so our friday night flicks are wide open. Thanks for stopping by.
