I am an amateur wine enthusiast. In the Covid 19 pandemic world, I’ve found some time to explore those interests. Taking on-line courses, finding wine apps and wine websites, I’ve been able to drown myself in delights of the grape. So much so, I decided to explore the pairing of wine and romance. On a simple level, its kinda cliche–wine is easily part of a romantic dinner, a night of passion, or as a delicious treat you sip as you dig into your favorite romance novel.

I want to explore something else. Can different types of wine spice up or cool down our pleasure in our books? I recently tried a couple of wines from Avaline, one of the growing number of celebrity-related wines. Avaline is a partnership between Cameron Diaz and Katherine Power to promote clean wines. They are beautiful to behold. But what I want to point out is their labels (I’ve circled the section I want you to see). They suggest pairing their wine with an experience. The rose’ with the “warmth of the sun and company of your best friend,” and the white with “fresh cut flowers and your favorite meal”. The wines are lovely, fresh and light with a touch of sweet (not too much). Even more than enjoying the wine, I am entranced with the idea of pairing wine with experience – the idea that we can be intentional about deepening moods and moments.

So, I will be exploring the this relationship between wine and romance, taste and experience, of how we engage more of our senses in all of our experiences – simple to complex. I hope you will join me in this journey, commenting, suggesting, recommending. I welcome your thoughts, ideas and recommendations.
