Hello Everyone. Welcome. I’ve taken a another few weeks off to deal with some health issues (mine, my daughter and my mother) and find a new place to live, because I am moving this summer. I’m starting back up again with Sunday posts. Today, in addition to Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday, I am also participating in Charity Sunday organized by Lisabet Sarai. Last time, I supported Thurgood Marshall College Fund which provides scholarships to students as well as support to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions. This month I will give to the American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU, which protects civil rights and civil liberties for all Americans. Given current threats to voting rights, gender identities, and so many others, we need leaders out there in the field. Some days it feels like the world is going backwards. 🙁 I will give $2.00 for every comment.

I am continuing with a snippet from the first draft of book three of my Green Rising series. The tentative title is Bet on Me. Since its the very first draft and I’m still feeling my way around the characters and the plot, I warmly invite all comments and feedback.

The lines that precede the snippet below are:

“Stand down,” Sam said to one of the blondes. “Back to the table. She is not a threat to me.”

Tricky bastard, training models as bodyguards. “You sure?” She tapped her own gun, hidden under her jacket.

He laughed. A pure sound, real and from the gut. Money gave him that kind of freedom. “Yeah, I’m sure. I prefer the cyborg guards, but they are not safe at the moment. The ladies take people by surprise which has its advantages. You should know all about that.”

“You’re better off without cyborgs.” She touched the scarring on her neck.

He smiled that smile she never could resist. “You never answered my question.”

“I hate crowds.” That was true enough. She glanced at the blondes and finished the next scotch.

“You drink like a Karamite. Where you headed.”

“I’m just here to drink.” She motioned to Cas for another.

“I figured you’d be a better liar.”

She grunted. “Jin Macao.” Home.

“So am I. I need to check on my investments.” His eyes narrowed as if in thought.  The crinkles deepened, making him look older but still so very sexy. “You might be good to have around. It’s more dangerous since the cyborgs walked off their jobs.”

  • It seems like they have a history, and they know each other well enough to see what’s truth and what’s deception.

Shari, I just caught a glitch with your sign up link–and corrected it. Anyone who clicked it before now would not have been led to this post. Sorry I didn’t catch it earlier. Good luck with your charity post. I think it’s wonderful. I need to make it on my calendar for next time.

    • Thank you so much, Teresa. I really appreciate it. I hadn’t realized it wasn’t working. I enjoy joining the charity blog. It propels me to action.

    • They know each other through work. Neither are particularly good at letting their guard down.

  • Seems a complex situation – using blondes as bodyguards instead of absent cyborgs. Also, she’s reluctant to trust him. The snippet makes me curious about the reasons.

    • Glad its making you curious. All we eventually be revealed. Thanks for dropping by.

  • Hello, Shari,

Thanks for participating in this month’s hop. I’m an enthusiastic supporter of the ACLU, at least partly because they stand up for everyone’s civil liberties — even people with whom I disagree. That’s what it means to be impartial and principled.

I love your WIP. You’ve conveyed a lot about your characters in this short snippet.

  • This snippet raised lots of questions for me. Where did the cyborgs go? Why? What’s the connection between the cyborgs and the scarring on her neck? What dangers will they face on their upcoming trip?
