Food is the stuff of life. Breaking bread is the stuff of social interaction.  Food often can take a central role in social interaction. For this A to Z challenge post, I want to do something different. I am going share recipes from other worlds. Who doesn’t enjoy a good recipe?

Ambrosia: Food for the Gods

Greek gods ate ambrosia, and it was believed to confer longevity or immortality to gods and mortals alike. Here’s what’s in it.

  • Fold together 1.5 cups cool whip and half a cup sour cream
  • Then add (and stir gently):
    • 3 cups Mini marshmallows
    • 1 cup pineapple chunks
    • 1 cup segmented clementines
    • 1 cup shredded coconut
    • ½ cup maraschino cherries (drained and destemmed)
    • If you eat nuts, ¾ cup toasted and chopped pecans
  • Refrigerate for a minimum of one hour (to overnight), and immortality is yours.

Pumpkin Juice:  The drink of choice for young witches and wizards

When visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, you can buy a bottle of pumpkin juice. The ingredients are (leaving out the preservatives):

  • Water
  • Apple juice (note the bottle claims its 81% juice) so measure tis 4/5 apple juice, 1/5 water
  • Pumpkin Puree
  • Apricot Puree or preserves
  • Sugar

Here’s a good recipe based on these.  It uses 12 ounces of frozen apple juice concentrate with 3 cups water, half a cup of pumpkin puree, 2 tablespoons of apricot preserves and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and one of vanilla extract (and you can throw in one of sugar. Put in blender and blend about 10 seconds until smooth.  Top with whipped cream or cool whip.

Fish custard: The energy source for a newly regenerated timelord.

Matt Smith, the eleventh doctor, was starving after his regeneration.  In the kitchen of Amelia Pond, he asked her to bring food choice after food choice, only to discover he hated them all. In the end, he created this meal designed for regeneration.

  • A bag of frozen fish fingers
  • A can of custard.

Open custard, dump in bowl. Grab frozen fish, dip in custard and enjoy.
