Hello Everyone! Welcome to the Long and Short Review Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, where bloggers write on a common theme every Wednesday. This is my second year participating. Today’s topic is if we ever met someone famous.

Yes. But I didn’t know it at the time.

When I was five, my dad was in the army and we lived in Ft. Benning, Ga. The Powell family lived across the street. So when I was very young, Colin Powell was my neighbor. My sister played with his son, who was the same age. But he wasn’t famous at the time. So does that count?

The thing about fame is that there is big famous, like movie stars, and there niche famous. For example, I remember being at a wedding shower, reconnecting with an old high school friend, who was gushing (read bragging) over who her dissertation advisor was. Never heard of the woman, but I got that within my friend’s world, the advisor was someone and meant something. It just didn’t translate. Here’s another example. I am a big fan of Nalini Singh’s Psy-changeling series. I have no immediate friends and family who read romance. For romance readers, she is big. For my family, she’s just a name without any context. Final example, all those K-pop bands and tiktok influencers my kid loves are just names to me.

So fame is a funny thing. It can be fleeting and it can be small or it can be contextual. Maybe the important thing is not that someone is known, but what they are known for. I think we forgot that sometimes in the whole celebrity culture.

Happy Wednesday.
