This scene, in Erik’s POV, occurs  immediately after Erik and Lainie met.

Lainie Carter was a threat.

Nothing about her fit the profile chip she handed him. She was just too smart, too confident, and too damn hot to be a FreeZoner tour guide. The guarded classes would never tolerate her sass and the women would reject her on those looks alone. The mahogany hair, blunt cut, and fresh-scrubbed skin might be out of fashion, but she rocked it. He had ached to run his fingers along the soft flesh of her body when she crashed into him earlier. The cut on his lip was a painful reminder of how hard he bit down to prevent himself from taking that touch.
